Millersville, Pa. - George Mason won all but two matches and handed Millersville wrestling a 36-9 loss Saturday evening at Pucillo Gymnasium.
Millersville (2-11) received wins from freshman
Josh Ruppert at 133 pounds and from heavyweight
Chase Godfrey. Ruppert improved to 14-6 and scored his team-leading 10th fall of the year by pinning Zachary Isenhour in 2:07.
George Mason ran off six consecutive wins including a tight overtime win by Ty Knepp over
Brandon Vernalli at 165 pounds. Godfrey closed the evening with a 2-1 win over Hunter Manspile. Godfrey picked up a point with an escape to start the second period. He started the third in the top position and accumulated enough riding time to give him one point before Manspile managed to escape.
Saturday's match was the final home match in the careers of Vernalli,
Shane Smith,
Kyle Toth,
Miles Fischer and
Brent Barr.
Millersville travels to Kutztown and Tuesday and then to Franklin & Marshall for the annual Battle of the Rupp Cup on Feb. 17.
