MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville wrestling team earned its first PSAC dual victory of the season with a 27–9 win over Shippensburg.
The Marauders opened the night with early momentum as Gavin Boland secured a major decision, winning 12–3 at 125. Nick Cottone followed with a technical fall at 4:27, and at 141 pounds, Taylor Robinson extended the lead with a 4–1 decision.
Shippensburg earned its first win at 149 with a 5–3 decision over Daniel Sinclair, but Millersville responded quickly. Richie DeFulvio recorded a technical fall at 6:09, pushing the Marauders' advantage to 17–3.
The 165-pound bout proved to be the most competitive of the dual, as Chase Bish faced No. 15 Nick Delp. After Delp built an early lead, Bish battled back with a takedown to make it 6–3. Despite a late push, Bish fell by decision.
"Chase has wrestled some tough competition over the past 10 days," Head Coach Jerry Boland said. "Losing tonight by a takedown to the guy that pinned him and majored him last year, along with losing to the No. 3 ranked wrestler at the Shorty last weekend by a takedown are good signs. Not just from a score perspective but in how he gained confidence throughout each of those bouts. He will continue to train hard, make adjustments, and look to improve throughout the season."
Shippensburg added a win at 174 with an 8–5 decision over Mitch Bivona, who was making his season debut. Millersville's Avery Aurand, competing up a weight class, held off a late push to claim a 3–2 win at 184. The dual concluded with a 4–1 decision victory from heavyweight Landon Morehart to secure the Marauders' team win.
"We definitely started strong and continued pushing the pace throughout the dual," Boland said. "A few matches didn't go our way, but those could have gone either direction. We stress wrestling this way and maintaining a high standard in everything we do. This type of win gives us something to build on as we prepare for another PSAC dual next week."
Millersville improved to 1–0 with a 27-9 victory in PSAC competition and will travel to East Stroudsburg next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. dual.
