Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team found themselves down one goal with only five minutes to play when freshman Megan Kelley knocked in the equalizer to force a 1-1 tie with Charleston on Friday at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Millersville (3-5-3) totalled 19 shots in the game and received nine saves from goalkeeper Olivia Webber. Jenna Gould tallied the game-tying assist, and Kayla Fouchie recorded three shots in the game and helped lead the offensive attack for the Marauders. Charleston ( (5-5-2) took 15 shots and also received nine saves from keeper Courtney Budd.
The first half was controlled by the Marauders as they out-shot the Golden Eagles, 12-1. At the 15 minute mark Kristin Lepley, Millersville's leading scorer, found herself racing to beat Budd to the ball. Lepley got their first and fired a shot that went through Budd's legs but sailed just wide of the goal.
With Millersville having most of the possession in the second half, the Golden Eagles stole the ball and countered quickly. Millersville temporarily stopped the attack but gave up a corner kick to Charleston.
The Golden Eagles' Elyse Surbaugh lifted the corner right over Webber's reach, and Holly Bigg gathered in the ball and finished it into the cage for the 1-0 Golden Eagle lead.
It seemed that the Marauders were not going to be able to tie the game until senior Jenna Gould beat her defender and attacked the baseline with five minutes to play. Gould play a slotted ball to Kelley who one timed the shot past the keeper for the equalizer.
Charleston tallied three more shots in the overtime period but was unable to breach the Millersville defense again.
The goal for Kelley was her first since the season opener.
With the tie Millersville has now played to a draw in three of their past five games.
The Marauders remain at home for their next game to take on Lock Haven on Oct. 9 at 3:30 p.m.
