Field Hockey Preps For Playoffs With 3-1 Win Over ESU

Box Score East Stroudsburg, Pa. - East Stroudsburg scored first, but Millersville field hockey scored three unanswered goals for a 3-1 road victory in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon.

For Millersville (12-6, 7-3 PSAC East), which had already clinched its spot in the PSAC Tournament, Saturday's game was merely a tune-up for the postseason, and East Stroudsburg provided some adversity when Lauren Ventrella scored her 10th goal of the season at the 27:50 mark.

Millersville flipped the switch quickly, though, and a received three consecutive goals by three freshmen. Lauren Gerhart started the run at the 34:59 mark, and the two teams took a 1-1 score into the half.

16:56 into the second half, Katelyn Zapp delivered her fourth goal of the season, giving Millersville a lead it would relinquish. Megan Donlan added some insurance with five minutes to go.

East Stroudsburg certainly put pressure on Lauren Sotzin and the Marauder back line. The Warriors totaled 10 corners, including seven in the second half. Sotzin made eight saves. For the 16th time in 18 games, Millersville did surrendered two goals or fewer. The Marauders closed the regular season by winning five of six games.

The team's attention now turns to Bloomsburg. Millersville makes its first PSAC Tournament appearance since 1993 against the defending league champions. Tuesday's game is set for 4 p.m.
