Bloomsburg, Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team fell in yet another close match, falling to Bloomsburg on Tuesday evening. The Huskies scored a goal in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Marauders, 1-0.
Olivia Webber recorded three saves in goal, and Megan Kelley and Gina Grier each totaled three shots for Millersville (3-7-4, 1-7-3 PSAC). The Marauders took four more shots and three more corners than the Huskies but were unable to score on any of their opportunities.
Bloomsburg (5-8-1, 3-7-1 PSAC) received its only goal of the contest in the 81st minute when Lauren Stedman chipped the ball over the defense to Tara Huber. Huber beat Webber to the right post giving Bloomsburg the 1-0 advantage. Danielle Fiorelli notched five saves in her sixth shutout of the season.
Millersville had a chance to tie the game with under 10 seconds left when Gina Grier played a corner kick into the box with only six seconds remaining. Sophomore Kelsey Mattola was able to get a head on the ball, but her header when wide left with only one second on the clock.
This game marks the sixth time this season that Millersville has played in a match that was decided by one goal or less.
Head coach Mike O'Brien aims to regroup his squad as it plays four consecutive home games to end the season. Their first of that four-game stretch is on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. against the Holy Family Tigers.
