Field Hockey Holds Slippery Rock Scoreless

Slippery Rock, Pa. – After faltering against No. 7 Kutztown earlier in the week, Millersville responded with a convincing win over Slippery Rock on Friday. The No. 6 Marauders shutout The Rock and scored twice to pick up their third win of the season.

Millersville (3-2, 0-1 PSAC East) put pressure on Slippery Rock (1-5, 0-1 West) from the start of Friday's contest. The Rock, who has struggled, were the Marauders first un-ranked opponent this season. Millersville held Slippery Rock to one shot in the first side.

The scoreless tie ended late in the second half after the Marauders gained all the momentum. Junior Brittany Anderson took a penalty corner from the left side of the goal in the 32nd minute. Anderson slapped the ball to the top of the circle to find Brittany Troutman. Troutman collected the pass and drove one into the back of the goal to put Millersville up 1-0 going into the half.

The Marauders dominated the penalty corner attempts, holding a 12-4 margin over The Rock in the game.

Slippery Rock performed better in the second half, outshooting Millersville 6-5 in the session. Millersville's Sarah Dickinson stood strong in goal, making all three of her saves in the second half to earn her 12th career shutout.

In the 56th minute, junior Kirsten Dively scored her first goal of the season to put the Marauders ahead by two. Paige Morrison fed Dively the ball to give Millersville the 2-0 lead with 14 minutes left in regulation.

Head coach Shelly Behrens picked up her fourth-straight win against Slippery Rock, and now holds a 4-0 record all-time versus The Rock. The Marauders have dominated Slippery Rock since 1979, winning 26 of the 37 meetings.
