
Coyne Takes Seventh But Team Falters

Clarion, Pa. - Robert Coyne opened the 2011-12 golf campaign with an impressive seventh-place finish at the Hal Hansen Invitational. As a team, however, the Marauders could not bounce back from dissapointing first day and placed seventh out of eight tames.
Coyne placed in a five-way tie for seventh on the strength of an even-par 72 in the second round. He shot 5-over-par in the opening round on the Clarion Oaks Golf Course. His 5-over-par score for the tournament was five back of second place and 10 shots behind Zack Kempa of Indiana (Pa.), whose first round 66 helped him to a total score of 5-under-par.
The Marauders opened with a team score of 309, which placed them sixth after the first day. The weather conditions improved for round two but Millersville's 304 tied for the seventh highest team score of the round. Host Clarion shot rounds of 298 and 294 for a 16-over-par total. It edged IUP by three strokes.
Millersville's Jeff Stokes and Shane Henry tied for 23rd at 10-over-par. Newcomer Timothy See shot two sub-80 rounds to finish 11-over-par and in 26th. Fellow newcomer Connor Gilbert placed in a tie for 31st at 13-over-par.
Millersville next travels to West Lafayette, Ohio for the Powerade Atlantic Region Invitational on Sept. 19.
