Millersville, Pa. - After defeating Mercyhurst 14-3 to win the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championship, Millersville earned a spot in the NCAA Division II Championship in Cary, N.C. Only eight teams remain in the quest to win a national championship.
The 43-10 Marauders are in the tournament for just the second time in school history and the first time since 1998. In 1998, the Marauders defeated W.Va. State in a best of three series to win the regional. At the NCAA Championship, Millersville won its opening round game against St. Joseph's but dropped its next two.
This time around, the Marauders defeated Concord (3-1), Seton Hill (5-3), and No. 17 Mercyhurst twice (8-5 and 14-3) to win the regional. Now, they face the nation's No. 2-ranked team Mount Olive, which is also serving as the host institution for the championship. Mount Olive boasts a 45-8 record and won the Southeast Regional with a 2-1 win over Francis Marion.
Millersville and Mount Olive will meet for the first time in program history at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the USA Baseball Training Complex. Domenic Panza and Matt Dudas and the Marauder Sports Broadcasting Network (MSBN) will be on hand to call the action.
