Philadelphia, Pa. – The Penn Relays went late into last evening—or early this morning—because of an extended rain delay from the severe thunderstorms that crossed over the state. In the nightcap the Marauders competed in several distance events bringing home a few more conference qualifiers.
After lightning left the area and the meet was back in action the women's 4x400-meter relay team challenged the school record pace (3:54.63) set in 2009. Brittany Yanora, Chrissy Savage, Erin Mason and Abby Schneider came close to that record with a time of 3:56.01. The time will likely take them to the PSAC Championships as the best mark in the event of the season for Millersville.
After Elicia Anderson broke her fifth school record on the season and claimed her second NCAA automatic qualifier with a time of 16:27.44 in the 5K, three Marauders competed in Olympic development races that are set up to qualify runners for the United States Championships in Eugene, Oregon this June.
Emily Francisco finished the 5K race in a time of 18:12.76 to earn her fourth PSAC qualifying time. She has now qualified to compete in the PSAC Championships in the 1,500-, 3,000-, 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs.
The only member of the men's squad to compete on day one was James McBride. McBride finished 26th in the men's Olympic development 5K race in a time of 15:03.03.
The Millersville track and field teams are back in action at the Penn Relays today. Live results can be viewed here.
