Game 1 |
Game 2
Millersville, Pa. - Georgian Court edged Millersville 5-4 in the home opener, but the Marauders bounced back with a 4-2 win in the nightcap using a stellar pitching effort from
Courtney Eckman and three hits from
Sarah Signore and
Davina Kachnovitz.
Eckman (1-1) went the distance in game two for her first victory and first complete game of the year. She surrendered just two runs in the second inning and scattered six hits. Georgian Court's (4-12) Shannon Dukes suffered the loss after allowing three earned runs--four total--and nine hits.
Signore and Kachnovitz set the table all game for the Marauders (7-6). Signore tripled, doubled and singled. She scored a run and Kachnovitz scored two. The Marauders scored all four runs in the first two innings. The first run came when Kachnovitz scampered home off a Georgian Court error. Three more came in the second. Signore drove in
Taylor Odell-Smith with a double. After a Kachnovitz single,
Kelly Fitzgerald plated a pair of runs with a double to left.
Fitzgerald's double broke open a tied game and gave the Marauders a 4-2 lead. That was all the run support Eckman needed. She breezed through the final five innings and worked a 1-2-3 seventh to close out the win.
Georgian Court used the long ball to earn the win in game one.
Alicia Hughes (5-3), fresh off the PSAC East Pitcher of the Week award and winner of four-straight decisions, was bounced after 4.1 innings. She allowed five runs on six hits. Georgian Court took an early lead in the second on two RBI singles. The Marauders tied the game in the bottom of the inning using an RBI double from
Ally Homa and a RBI single from
Deanna Schneiderreit.
Kelly Cutler untied the game in the fourth with a solo blast, and Jess Comiskey bounced Hughes with a two-run homer in the fifth. Homa came through again in the bottom of the frame with a two-run double. But Georgian Court's 5-4 lead stood. The Marauders stranded at least one runner in each inning and 10 total in the game.
Brooke Hull earned the complete game victory for Georgian Court. Homa led the Marauders at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Signore, who also pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, and Schneiderreit added two hits apiece.
The Marauders travel to Salem, Va., for the W.Va. Wesleyan Tournament this weekend. They take on Wheeling Jesuit Friday.
