Millersville, Pa. – On Tuesday evening in Pucillo Gymnasium the madness of March officially began. Riding four players with double figures, Millersville avenged last season's PSAC Tournament loss with a 70-65 nail-biting victory over West Chester to advance to the conference semifinals.

In typical Millersville-West Chester fashion, the game, which saw seven tied scores and seven lead changes, came right down to the wire. The Marauders (22-5) held a nine-point lead with 1:03 remaining, and it seemed that MU had secured the win.

In just 30 seconds, a 3-pointer and lay-up by Golden Rams (20-7) brought them within four. But forced to foul, West Chester sent Domonique Stroman to the line where she knocked down 1-of-2 and the Rams were unable to find a way to recover.

“Last year really crushed us,” said head coach Mary Fleig of the double overtime loss in the quarterfinals. “We were prepared for this and it feels incredible.”

Millersville was led by sophomore Aurielle Mosley who recorded her 17th double-double of the season with a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. With three fouls after nine minutes of action, Mosley was constrained to the bench for the majority of the first half. Her second-half performance of 12 points, nine rebounds and steal, however, was essential for the Marauders' success.

A large part of Millersville's dominance over the visitors was its harassing defense. MU forced 23 West Chester turnovers and tallied 15 steals on the night.

The Marauders registered just four fouls in the second half while West Chester committed nine. MU hit 5-for-9 from the charity stripe in the period and the Rams did not take a single free throw.

Mashira Newman scored 15 points for Millersville and just missed a double-double with a season-high nine assists. Newman also nabbed a game-high six steals and went 4-for-5 from the free throw line.

Junior Sophia Waters recorded 11 points—nine of which came from behind the arc. Playing in her final game in Pucillo Gymnasium, senior Domonique Stroman scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Stroman also handed out three assists and picked off five steals.

The Marauders shot 43.5 percent from the floor as a club, including a 51.6 shooting performance in the second period. MU also knocked down three treys in the half.

“This rivalry has been around for so long, and it feels so good to win,” Fleig said. “It was a great playoff game to come away with.”

Millersville heads to Bloomsburg to face PSAC West opponent Edinboro for the semifinal round of the conference playoffs. The Marauders and Fighting Scots are set to match-up at 5:30 p.m., inside Nelson Field House.
