Bethlehem, Pa. – The Marauders, men and women's track field teams got off to fast starts in the first event of the season. The indoor season kicked off on Friday with the first day of the Lehigh Valley Open, and senior Keith Ogden Jr. looked like he had never left the track.
Freshman Harlee Staller, meanwhile, stole the show for the women's team by taking down a school record in her first NCAA competition. Ogden came within one one-tenth of a second of setting school records in two separate events while Staller broke her school record in the long jump.
Ogden won first place in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes. Ogden's 60-meter winner was 7.08 seconds – just .05 off the school record in that event and .02 over his own personal record. His 200-meter time was 22.80 seconds and was .09 off the school record set in 1991 by Eddie Arnold.
Staller's school record distance in the indoor long jump was 5.51 meters, topping the 5.47-meter record set last year by Katherine Lennex, who placed fifth in the event with a distance of 5.21 meters. Mary Tooker also placed sixth, six-hundredths behind Lennex at 5.15 meters.
Another placer for the men's team was Tayon Haygood, who came in fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.45 seconds and sixth in the 200-meter dash at 24.04.
