Bethlehem, Pa. – The Millersville men and women's track & field teams kept the winning ways going for the second straight weekend Friday at Lehigh University in the Lehigh Fast Times races. Friday's events saw another freshman knock down a school record along with several more post top 10 performances in school history.
Collectively, the men's team placed first in its six-team field and the women were second in the four-team field. Individually, the Marauders did just as well, winning three total events.
Another Marauder freshman took the spotlight as Marquis White sprinted to his first career collegiate win with a time of 6.89 seconds in the 60-meter dash. With his time, White topped Kelvin Reyes' school-record time of 7.03 seconds set in the 2007 season and also recorded an NCAA provisional time.
Senior Keith Ogden was coming off last weekend's strong performance in which he won two races. For an encore, Ogden won the 200-meter dash for the second weekend in a row, beating out 34 other competitors with a time of 22.92 seconds.
Ogden also claimed seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.11, the other event he won last weekend.
One other high-placer on the men's side was Melvin Fields, who grabbed a pair of fifth-place finishes in men's long jump (6.33m) and men's triple jump (13.27m). Fields' 13.27-meter triple jump places him fifth in school history.
For the women, senior Elicia Anderson was the big winner of the day. She claimed a first-place finish in the one-mile run with a time of 5:09.34 which was just off her No. 2 spot in the school records.
Freshman Harlee Staller posted two more top 10 performances. She placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.44. In the triple jump, Staller took third place with a distance of 11.04 meters, making her sixth all-time in school history.
While Staller jumped to sixth in the triple jump, Katherine Lennex's 11.09-meter distance gave her a second-place finish and fourth in school history. The triple jump was one of the best events for the team on Friday, as it placed four women in the top nine; Lennex, Staller, Whitney Savoy (5th; 10.80m) and Jessica Fritsche (9th; 9.94m).
Both the men and women's teams now have over a month off for Winter Break before their next competition, when they compete in the Golden Bear Open & Multi on Jan. 12-13, 2012.
