Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Slippery Rock

Millersville, Pa. – Four Marauders scored in double figures in Millersville's 81-49 rout of Slippery Rock Sunday at Pucillo Gymnasium. Mashira Newman and Aurielle Mosley both posted double-doubles--Mosley's second in two games.

For the second time in as many games, Mosley recorded a double-double. Mosley scored 15 points and tacked on 11 more rebounds for her 21st career double-double. Newman followed up Mosley with her fourth career double-double on 16 points, 11 rebounds, one rebound from a career-high. Newman recorded a career-high four blocks to go with six assists and four steals.

Senior Sophia Waters led all scorers with 17 points, including 10 second half points. Waters was perfect from behind the arc going 3-for-3. Fellow senior Gabrielle Styles added six points in each half to register double figures in the contest.

Millersville (2-0, 2-0 PSAC) improved its first half field goal percentage from its first game. The Marauders, who made just 8 of 25 in the first half against Mercyhurst, shot an impressive 49-percent from the field in the first session against Slippery Rock (1-3, 0-2 PSAC), making 17 shots--five fewer than Saturday's total.

The Marauders jumped on The Rock early with a 10-3 run to start the game. Millersville increased its lead to 23, highest of the half, just before the break. Slippery Rock made a layup with five seconds left  to cut the lead to 41-20 in favor of the Marauders at the half.

Millersville went on an 8-0 run to start the second half to increase its lead to 29, up 49-20. The Marauders' lead did not fall below a 22-point margin the rest of the half. Their largest lead of 36 came with 3:18 remaining, ahead 79-43.

Slippery Rock finished the game with a 6-2 run in the final minutes, but the Marauders proved to be too much on Sunday. Millersville cruised to its second win of the season by a score of 81-49 over The Rock. The Marauders finished the game shooting just over 50-percent from the field, while Slippery Rock hit just 29-percent.

Freshman Shelby Reimer's first career shot-attempt was drained for three in the first half. She picked up two more jumpers to finish the game with seven points, going 3-for-3 from the field.

Millersville gets a week long rest before hosting Philadelphia next Sunday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. at Pucillo Gymnasium. MSBN will be on the call and can be heard on www.millersvilleathletics.com.
