ROCKHURST BLANKS REIGNING NATIONAL CHAMPION NORTHEN KENTUCKY
The Midwest Region's top-seeded Rockurst Hawks defeated second-seeded and reigning national champion Northern Kentucky Norse by a score of 2-0 on Sunday, Nov. 13 to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Sophomore forward Mark Magee scored both goals for Rockhurst and now leads the team with 14 goals and 40 points. Hawks' goalkeeper Ryan Bass collected his 13th shutout--the team's 15th--of the season with the victory. Bass leads the nation in goals against average (0.35), save percentage (.885) and shutouts (13).
The win was No. 600 for Rockhurst's head coach Tony Tocco, who became the third men's college coach to reach 600 or more career victories. The Hawks improved to 17-2-2 on the season and have not lost a game since Sept. 18 when they fell to Northern Kentucky, 1-0.
On Friday, Nick McDonald scored his 10th goal of the season to lead Rockhurst to a 1-0 victory over Saginaw Valley State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Bourke. McDonald scored on a shot from eight yards out in the 56th minute.
The Hawks have gone unbeaten in their last 16 games (14-0-2). Rockhurst captured the regular season title in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Rockhurst last hosted NCAA Tournament play in 2008, falling to Lewis in penalty kicks in the first round. The Hawks are making their fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

LATE GOALPREVAILS MARAUDERS OVER CALU FOR THIRD TIME
Millersville faced the tough challenge of beating the same team three times in a season in the Atlantic Regional Championship. The Marauders did just that by shutting out California (Pa.) for the third time this season by a score of 1-0 to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Junior forward Matt Kadoch scored the game's only goal late in the second half off a throw-in. The Marauders put pressure on the Vulcans' defense, forcing CalU to clear the ball out of bounds fifteen yards from the end-line to set up a corner kick-like throw-in by Senior Ethan Daubert. Daubert, with a running start, chucked the ball over his head and into the box. Ryan Rohrer chested the ball to the ground where Kadoch collected it, spun to his right, and beat the Vulcans' keeper to the right side for the 1-0 lead. Millersville shut down all of CalU's responses in the final six minutes of play to hold on to the victory.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Brad Benzing recorded his 10th shutout, team's 11th, of the season. Benzing has not given up a goal since the first half of Millersville's 2-0 loss at Lock Haven on Oct. 27. Since then, Benzing has recorded five-straight shutouts, including four-straight in the post season.
On Thursday, Benzing made a career and season-high 11 saves in Millersville's 1-0 win over Mercyhurst to advance to the Atlantic Region Championship game. The Marauders' only goal came in the 38th minute when senior Eric Pepper sent in a corner from the far side. The ball soared over 6-5 Aaron Roland and found the head of freshman Brian Dingle, who scored his first goal of the season to give Millersville a 1-0 lead and eventual win.
The Marauders are hosting a NCAA Quarterfinal for the second in in four years. In 2008, Millersville fell to Northern Kentucky who advanced 5-4 in penalty kicks (game is recorded as a 1-1 tie).
FIRST MEETING
Millersville and Rockhurst are meeting for the first time on the pitch. Rockhurst entered the NCAA Tournament ranked No. 6, while Millersville came in at No. 21.
The Hawks (17-2-2) have outscored their opponents by a margin of 45-7 with an average of 2.14 goals per game, and giving up less than a goal per game (0.33). Four players have double digit point totals and two of those players have 10 or more goals on the season. Sophomore Mark Magee leads the team in every offensive category (14 goals, 12 assists, 40 points).
