No. 9 Kutztown Blanks No. 6 Marauders

Kutztown, Pa. – No. 9 Kutztown scored twice and held No. 6 Millersville scoreless in Saturday night's contest under the lights at University Field. The Golden Bears have knocked off the Marauders for the second time this season after dropping behind Millersville in the national rankings at the beginning of the week.
 
Kutztown (8-4, 3-2 PSAC East) outshot Millersville (7-6, 1-5 PSAC East) by a 7-4 margin in the first period. The Golden Bears recorded just two shots on goal in the half but they only needed one to take the lead.
 
In the 30th minute, Kutztown's Emily Labowitz put the home team on the board first. Labowitz scored an unassisted goal to take a 1-0 lead into the half.
 
The Marauders put pressure on the Golden Bears in the second half, outshooting Kutztown by a margin of 10-8. Millersville had its chances with five penalty corners in the second session, 10 in the contest.
 
Kutztown earned a penalty stroke in the 62nd minute for an illegal play by the Marauders inside the circle. Erin Reynolds got the nod to take the stroke for a chance to extend the Golden Bears' lead. Reynolds did just that by beating Millersville goalkeeper Sarah Dickinson to give Kutztown a 2-0 lead with eight minutes to play.
 
Millersville was unable to find an answer, dropping its fifth conference game of the season. Despite the loss, Dickinson stood strong in goal for the Marauders making eight saves.
 
Millersville's offense did not go without a fight, firing nine shots on goal. Kutztown's Emily Falko was up for the test, though, stopping all nine shots for the shutout.
 
The Marauders host No. 1 Bloomsburg on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. The Huskies shutout Millersville by a score of 4-0 on Sept. 21 at Bloomsburg.
