
East Stroudsburg Nips Marauders in Double Overtime

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Ashley Weber gave the No. 6-ranked Millersville field hockey team an early lead, but No. 10 East Stroudsburg completed a 2-1 come-from-behind, double overtime victory with Lucrezia Manzione's late goal.
East Stroudsburg (6-7, 1-4 PSAC East) needed a second half goal from Jessica Lawville and Manzione's goal 5:32 into the second overtime to end Millersville's (7-5, 1-4 PSAC East) three-game winning streak. It was Millersville's fourth one-goal defeat. Both of ESU's goals were off of corners and assisted by Amanda McGuire and Mallory Pope.
The Marauders out-shot East Stroudsburg 20-17, including 17-13 in regulation. Maureen Ordnung stopped 13 of the 14 shots she faced, and her counterpart Sarah Dickinson made seven saves.
It didn't take long for Millersville to jump in front of the home team. Weber scored her third goal of the season on an assist from Brittany Anderson 4:43 into the first period. Millersville placed six more shots on goal in the next 20 minutes but was unable to beat Ordnung.
The ESU keeper kept her team within reach until Lawville's goal knotted the game at the 52:42 mark. Millersville took six shots in the final 11 minutes of regulation but could not score. ESU had one last penalty corner at the end of regulation, but Dickinson stoned Lauren Ventrella to keep the game tied.
Millersville's Emily Manwiller nearly ended the game two minutes into the first overtime. Her shot off of a penalty corner hit the post. East Stroudsburg then took command and took five penalty corners in the first overtime.
After a scoreless 15 minutes, the teams went to a second extra session. The Marauders took two penalty corners in the first three minutes, and a Weber shot attempt was saved. ESU's first corner of the extra session ended in Manzione's goal.
Millersville's 20 shots attempted matched a season high. Weber attempted five shots and Katelyn Zapp attempted four.
The Marauders travel to No. 9 Kutztown on Saturday with hopes of avenging a 2-1 loss earlier this season. Game time is 7 p.m.
