Box Score Box Score

Millersville, Pa. - Mashira Newman's layup with 16 seconds remaining and a block by Gabrielle Styles at the other end of the floor led the No. 18 Maraudes to a 51-48 win over Edinboro in PSAC women's basketball crossover action Sunday afternoon in Pucillo Gymnasium. Millersville (10-3) handed the Fighting Scots (9-2) their second defeat of the season.

Before the visitors knotted the score at 46 with 1:19 showing on the clock the two clubs had not seen a tie game since the 2:22 mark of the first half at 20-20. Newman received the ball inbounds and immediately went coast-to-coast and sank a layup to put the Marauders up two. Edinboro's Renee Brown's attempt at a basket was denied by Styles, who then nabbed the rebound.

The Scots were forced to foul as the clock wound down. Newman was sent to the free throw line where she sank one of two. Four seconds were not enough for Edinboro to set up a 3-point shot and Millersville earned its third-straight victory.

The Marauders, who were led by three players in double figures, held a double-digit lead five times throughout the second half. Edinboro, however, chipped away at a 10-point deficit on the strength of a 9-0 run that spanned 2:38 to come within one point of Millersville. MU held no more than a four-point advantage for the remainder of action.

Head coach Mary Fleig relied heavily on her starters throughout the contest and didn't receive any points off the bench. Domonique Stroman and Sophia Waters scored 11 points each while Newman registered 14. Waters is the only Marauder to tally double-digit scores in each of the last eight games.

Aurielle Mosley and Styles pulled down 14 rebounds apiece, marking a career high for the latter. As a squad, Millersville collected 46 rebounds compared to Edinboro's 36. The conference leader in blocked shots, Millersville totaled seven blocks, and Styles denied a career-high four shots of her own.

The Scots struggled from the floor all day and totaled a final shooting percentage of 27.3 on a 15-of-55 effort. Brown led all scorers with a game-high 16 points which included knocking down 9-of-10 free throws.

The Marauders kick off division play on Wednesday, Jan. 12 on the road. Millersville travels to Bloomsburg for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
