East Stroudsburg, Pa. – Domonique Stroman knocked down two free throws with 11 seconds remaining to put her club up by three and East Stroudsburg could not connect on a 3-point attempt as No. 20 Millersville narrowly escaped Koehler Fieldhouse with a 62-59 victory Sunday afternoon. The game, which was the second consecutive day of action for both teams, was rescheduled from Wednesday due to snow.
The win over the Warriors was the Marauders' fifth straight as well as their first conference victory on the road. Millersville now holds a mark of 15-3 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC East, while East Stroudsburg fell to 4-14, 1-5 PSAC East.
With just 3:03 showing on the clock the Marauders found themselves with a 12-point advantage—the largest lead of the contest—off of a Stroman jumper. Millersville saw that lead slowly slip away, though, while the Warriors went on a 13-2 run in just over two minutes to bring ESU within one.
Forced to foul, East Stroudsburg sent Stroman to the foul line where she hit both shots and saved her team from defeat.
The Marauders struggled from the floor all afternoon, particularly from behind the arc where they shot a mere 3-for-14. Millersville also turned the ball over 25 times and 27 of ESU's points came off of Marauder errors.
Millersville's ability to attack the glass helped to offset some of its shooting woes. The Marauders out-rebounded East Stroudsburg 53-37 and pulled down 24 offensive boards to total 15 second-chance points.
Aurielle Mosley paced the Marauders with arguably the best game of her career. While registering her ninth double-double performance, Mosley scored a game-high 25 points in addition to her game-high 18 rebounds. She also nabbed five steals, blocked four shots and did not commit a single foul.
Stroman had an impressive day as well with 14 points, three steals and five assists.
Gabrielle Styles tallied 11 points on the day, and
Mashira Newman and
Sophia Waters each chipped in six to round out Millersville's scoring.
The Marauders head to Shippensburg on Wednesday, Feb. 2 for a conference clash with the Lady Raiders. Action is slated for 6 p.m.
