No. 8 Marauders Edged by No. 4 Bloomsburg in Double Overtime

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. – Bloomsburg's Amanda Riley caught the rebound of a deflected shot and slipped it past Sara Dickinson 3:37 into double overtime to lift the fourth-ranked Huskies to a 3-2 victory over No. 8 Millersville Wednesday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.

The Marauders' (3-5, 0-2 PSAC East) defense was put to the test early in the contest. Bloomsburg (5-1, 1-0 PSAC East) controlled the tempo early, out-shooting Millersville 3-0 and racking up six penalty corners before Riley put the Huskies on the board at 25:37 off of a pass from Lindsay Danz.

Defenses battled for the remaining 10 minutes, and the squads went into halftime with a 1-0 score. The Marauders did not get a shot off in first-period action, while Bloomsburg took seven.

Nine minutes into the second half the Huskies set up for a penalty corner. Amber Aulenbach passed to an open Betsy Renn who found the back of the cage to put Bloomsburg up by two.

The two-goal lead was short-lived, however, as the Millersville offense ignited three minutes later. Ekom Enyong cradled a rebound from an Ashley Weber shot and sent it to Brittany Troutman. Troutman put the Marauders on the board and gave Millersville the offensive spark it needed.

With time winding down and three minutes remaining in regulation, Jessica Cave situated her team for a corner shot. Cave slid a pass to Emily Woodland who slammed the ball past Megan Eppley to knot the score and send the game into overtime. The last time Millersville and Bloomsburg faced each other in overtime was during the 1998 season.

The extra period stood scoreless for both clubs. Bloomsburg registered three shots to Millersville's one, but neither team could connect for a goal and the game was sent into its second overtime period.

Just one minute into double overtime action Weber found herself face-to-face with Husky goalkeeper Meghan Hollenbach and with a prime opportunity to notch the win for the Marauders. Weber's shot, however, was blocked by a quickly-recovering Bloomsburg defender who sent the ball back down the field.

Riley's goal came shortly after, saving the Huskies from a potential second loss of the season.

Dickinson set aside 12 shots for Millersville in the 88 minutes.

Millersville returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 2 when it hosts non-conference Limestone. Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
