No. 7 Kutztown Edges No. 6 Marauders in Final Minutes

Box Score

Kutztown, Pa. – In its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Easter Division contest of the season, the No. 6 Millersville field hockey team was edged by seventh-ranked Kutztown 2-1 on Tuesday evening. The Marauders evened their record to 3-3 overall and now sit 0-1 in conference play.

Second-period play remained scoreless for the clubs, which were knotted at 1-1, but Julie Rosenkaimer's goal with just over 10 minutes to play action was good enough to secure the conference victory the Golden Bears (2-1, 1-0 PSAC East).

Emily Woodland scored the first goal of the contest on a corner play and gave the Marauders a 1-0 lead just 9:51 into the game. Kutztown eventually answered to even the score 18 minutes later when Abbey Sheeler found the back of the cage off of a pass from Jenna Gregory.

The squads went into the half with a tie score, the Golden Bears slightly edging Millersville in shots by a 5-4 margin.

Second-half action continued the way it began with neither team able to come up with a goal, exchanging shots and corners throughout the period.

With 10 minutes left in the half and the season's first conference victory on the line, Erin Reynolds found an open Rosenkaimer to put Kutztown on top. Despite out-shooting Kutztown 6-4, Millersville was not able to find the back of the cage again.

Junior goalkeeper Sara Dickinson recorded two saves, and the Golden Bears' Emily Falko registered five.

The Marauders host Indiana (Pa.) Saturday for a conference crossover game. Action is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
