Millersville, Pa. – The No. 7 Millersville field hockey team generated a spark of energy in the second half of play, scoring three goals in 16 minutes to hand Slippery Rock a 3-0 defeat Saturday evening at Chryst Field Biemesderfer Stadium. After winning their home-opener against the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division member and recording their second shutout of the season, the Marauders improved to 3-2 on the year.

First-period action was a battle of the defenses as both teams combined for five shots overall. Millersville registered three shots to no avail. The Rock (0-3) came up with two shots. Only one shot was on goal, which Marauder goalkeeper Sara Dickinson turned away for her lone save of the game.

Millersville came out strong in the second half, totaling three corner shots in the first two minutes of action. Just 2:31 into the period off of a corner pass from Jessica Cave, Melissa McCarthy found an open Paige Morrison to put the squad up by one. McCarthy kept her momentum going, notching an unassisted goal of her own five minutes later to put the Marauders up, 2-0.

After a quiet and scoreless 10 minutes of play, Tricia Jackson banged a shot from the far left side of the circle which was deflected in goal by Champayne Hess for Millersville's final goal.

The Marauder offense kept The Rock at bay, out-shooting the squad by a 10-2 margin. Millersville also collected 13 corner shots to Slippery Rock's three.
