Marauders Glide Past No. 9 Mercyhurst

Box Score

Erie, Pa. –
Millersville tallied three goals before halftime and never looked back, gliding past No. 9 Mercyhurst 4-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action Saturday afternoon at Tullio Field. The Maruaders improved to 2-1 overall while the Lakers fell to 1-2.

Sophomore Paige Morrison didn't waste any time finding the back of the cage, recording a goal just 2:26 into the contest off of a pass from senior Emily Woodland. Woodland found classmate Jessica Cave less than two minutes later as the pair connected to put the Marauders up by two.

Just four minutes before first-half play was over, freshman Samantha Ruane notched her first collegiate goal to give the Marauders a three-point lead. Her goal was unassisted.

Mercyhurst out-shot Millersville by an 8-6 margin in the first period, but the nationally-ranked offense could not find its way around Marauder goalkeeper Sara Dickinson, who turned aside five shots in the half.

Almost six minutes into second-half action Woodland notched an unassisted goal of her own to put the Marauders up 4-0.

Mercyhurst sophomore Megan Richards cut the deficit in half with back-to-back goals less than 14 minutes apart. But the Marauder defense proved too much for the Lakers.

Millersville held an 11-6 advantage in corners but was out-shot 15-14 overall.

Dickinson totaled eight saves on the day to pick up her second win of the season.

The Marauders continue non-conference action in Erie on Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. match-up against Bellarmine.
