Game 2
Shippensburg, Pa. — Amy Kossyk and
Casey Coker were two of the many Millersville softball players to swing hot bats in Friday afternoon's PSAC Eastern Division game one win over Shippensburg. Both players matched career-highs with four hits and Kossyk drove in three runs in the Marauders' 6-3 opening game win. The Lady Raiders turned the tables in game two, however, picking up a 7-6 victory.
Millersville (22-23, 4-10 PSAC East) hammered Shippensburg's Dana Ward in game one. Kossyk's run production led the way, but that did not overshadow her teammates' stellar games at the plate.
Sarah Signore and
Jamie Motsko both had multi-hit games, and eight of the nine players in the lineup had at least one hit, as MU registered 17 of them.
Despite out-hitting the Lady Raiders (14-26, 3-11 PSAC East) through three innings, the Marauders trailed 1-0 entering the fourth.
Allison Chew began the MU rally with a lead-off single back through the box and was moved around to third on a pair of sacrifice bunts. Needing desperately to crack the goose egg on its side of the scoreboard, Millersville turned to senior leader
Lindsay Hosier. The shortstop answered with a clutch two-out two-run home run that put the Marauders ahead for the first time all afternoon. Hosier bested her previous career-high with this round-tripper being her fourth of the season.
The Marauders weren't done in the fourth, however. Signore and Coker followed Hosier's bomb with back-to-back base hits and Kossyk delievered another two-out RBI with a single into center field that scored Signore.
Three more runs in the sixth inning put Millersville comfortably ahead, 6-2. Signore, Coker, and Kossyk all singled, with Kossyk's base knock bringing home two runs.
Anna Libby would come across later in the inning on an error by Shippensburg left fielder Rochelle Troise.
The six runs were more than enough for Signore. The reigning PSAC East Player of the Week scattered seven hits over seven innings in picking up her eighth win of the year. Signore sat down four via strikeout in the win. The junior only gave up mutliple hits to one Ship player, that being Hope Cornell (2-for-2).
The Millersville bats continued to drill Shippensburg pitching in game two, out-hitting the Lady Raiders by a 16-11 margin. The defense was another story, though. Millersville committed six errors, which led six unearned runs.
Millersville took an early lead in the first on a Coker RBI single. But Shippensburg came right back with one in the bottom of the first and received a three-run homer from Lisamarie Ramagli. That gave Ship a lead it would not relinquish.
Trailing 7-3 in the top of the sixth, Millersville rallied with three runs on six hits. The comeback effort, however, was cut down in the seventh when Chelsea Kendall (2-7) closed her complete game with a 1-2-3 inning.
Courtney Eckman (7-7) lasted just 1.2 innings and shouldered the loss.
Deanna Schneiderreit led the Marauders at the plate with four hits and three runs. Hosier also added three hits.
Millersville's seniors will be honored on Saturday, April 17 as the team hosts West Chester in its home finale. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
