Game 2
Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville softball team took advantage of early runs in each game of a non-conference doubleheader with Lincoln (Pa.) on Wednesday. The Marauders used a 10-spot in the first inning of the opener en route to a 20-1 victory and wrapped up the afternoon with a 16-0 win at the Millersville University Softball Field.
Seven different players recorded at least one RBI in Millersville's (21-22) monster first inning. All totaled, the Marauders sent 14 batters to the plate and accumulated 10 hits to push across their 10 runs.
Kelly Fitzgerald singled and doubled in the inning and drove in three to lead the Marauder charge.
The inning was the Black and Gold's most productive one since a 15-run outburst against Clarion last April.
Lincoln (7-19) got on the board in the top of the second thanks to a sacrifice fly from Erin Rucker, but it would be the only scoring the Lions would do in the contest.
The Marauders continued to give Lincoln's pitching fits. The home side scored four more times in the second, once in the third, and five times in the fourth to ensure the win. The 20 runs scored and 22 hits were both easily season highs for MU.
Fitzgerald finished game one 3-for-3 with five RBIs.
Lindsay Hosier was a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored and a pair of runs batted in.
Sarah Signore also enjoyed a nice day at the dish with a 3-for-3 effort, three runs scored, and two RBIs.
Casey Coker and
Jamie Motsko each picked up three hits apiece and 12 different Marauders registered a ribby. Freshman
Abigail Ruoss' fourth inning RBI was the first of her career.
Courtney Eckman (7-6) earned the win for Millersville with 2.1 innings of work in relief of
Sarah Signore. Eckman allowed two hits and struck out three during her outing. Signore, the reigning PSAC East Player of the Week, struck out four in her 2.2 innings in the circle.
It was an eight-run third inning that put the Marauders comfortably ahead in game two.
Ally Homa had a two-run single and the Marauders slapped out eight hits, but it was also a special inning for Hosier. The senior shortstop stole her 26th base of the season in the inning to break Meghan Sinback's single-season school record of 25, set back in 2005. She also moved to the top of the Millersville charts in single-season doubles (15), and career doubles (41).
Millersville didn't waste much time getting on the board in the fifth, either.
Anna Libby started things off with a triple, before
Allison Chew slammed her first career home-run to dead center field.
Amy Kossyk later followed with a home run of her own.
Alicia Hughes had her second strong outing by no-hitting the Lions through four innings and striking out five.
Lisa Rich retired the side in order in the fifth to complete the combined no-hitter.
Five Marauders had multi-hit games, and nine knocked in at least one run in the nightcap.
Millersville returns to action Friday when it is at Shippensburg for a PSAC Eastern Division Doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
