Nightcap Unkind to Marauders

Box Score

Clermont, Fla. — Deanna Schneiderreit racked up two hits, including an RBI double, but Bloomsburg capitalized on a six-run second inning to knock off the Millersville softball team, 7-1, at the National Training Center on Saturday evening.

Bloomsburg (6-0) got on the board in the bottom of the first. Nikki Shiko led off the frame with a single and would come in on a balk by Millersville starter Brittany Peterson (0-1). Peterson would get out of a shaky first inning by getting Lori Neyhard to fly out with the bases loaded. She wouldn't be so lucky in the second though, giving up three straight hits, the third of which was a 2-run double by Shiko. The two-bagger chased Peterson from the game. Sarah Signore would come on relief, but she couldn't stop the bleeding right away. Danielle Lazorka singled in a run, Sam Pientack doubled in two more, and the Huskies had a 7-0 lead by inning's end.

The Marauders (1-1) could not get a handle on Bloom pitcher Shavaun Fisher. Fisher allowed just two walks over the first four innings and was cruising along until Schneiderreit broke up her no-hitter in the fifth inning with her first career hit. Millersville stranded Schneiderreit as Fisher, the hard-throwing righty, would get Jill Golomboski swinging to end the inning.

Signore was able to neutralize Bloomsburg over the remainder of her outing. Down to its final out, the Black and Gold's bats finally came alive. Pinch-hitter Jamie Motsko singled to right field on the first pitch she saw from Fisher. Schneiderreit followed up Motsko's knock with an RBI double to break up the Bloomsburg pitcher's shutout.

Fisher would put the finishing touches on the win by striking out Anna Libby. Her line for the night included three hits, an earned run, three walks and seven strikeouts. Millersville became the first team this season to get an earned run charged to Fisher, however. Signore was able to ring up four Huskies in her five innings of work for the Marauders.

Millersville returns to the field tomorrow morning for a pair of games. The Marauders will take on Merrimack College at 9:30 a.m., and Saint Joseph's (Ind.) at 11:30.
