Baseball Splits Low Scoring Affairs With Mansfield

Game 1
Game 2

Millersville, Pa. -
Millersville and Mansfield opened PSAC Eastern Division play Friday afternoon at the Millersville Baseball Stadium. The squads split a pair of 2-0 games behind the efforts of the starting pitchers.

Mansfield won the opener, riding Chris Zelko's one-hitter. Millersville senior Ryan Stauffer returned the favor in the nightcap, though, hurling a complete-game shutout.

Stauffer (2-1) scattered just four hits and walked none in his seven innings of work. Only two Mansfield base runners reached scoring position and not one found third base.

Millersville scored its only two runs in the sixth inning. Corey Phelan led off the rally with a single, and Derek Kline drew a walk to follow. Miles Gallagher sacrificed both runners into scoring position, and sophomore Chris Edgar delivered a two-run single, giving Millersville all the runs it would need.

Mansfield threatened in the seventh with two one-out singles, but Stauffer escaped the jam by inducing a pair of ground outs.

The Marauders managed just three hits off of Dylan Woodworth. In addition to Phelan and Edgar, Adam Boyd singled.

Senior Forrest Mengle (1-2) was the hard luck loser in game one. He allowed only two runs on four hits in a complete-game effort. Mansfield scored both runs in the fourth on a two-run double from Glen Jenkins.

Freshman Carlos Medina recorded Millersville's only hit.

Mansfield and Millersville resume the four-game series Saturday at Mansfield.
