Marauders Rally for Split With No. 23 Georgian Court

Box Scores: Game 1 / Game 2

Lakewood, N.J. —
The Millersville University softball team absorbed a 10-2 loss in game one, but rallied to return the favor 9-1 in game two, as it split a pair of games with 23rd-ranked Georgian Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Millersville (7-7) broke a 1-1 tie in game two with a five-run fourth inning. Jill Golomboski, Ally Homa, and Lindsay Hosier hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the inning to put the Marauders ahead to stay. Golomboski's three-run bomb got the offense started in the inning and the home run was the first of the senior's career. Homa, a sophomore, also connected for the first long ball of her career.

The Marauders tacked on three more runs in the fifth with the help of some very sloppy play by the Lions (10-4). Georgian Court committed three errors in the inning and runs scored by Kelly Fitzgerald and Casey Coker came on the same passed ball by GCU catcher Donnie Brossoie.

Sarah Signore tossed a complete game to improve to 4-0. It was yet another solid outing for the junior as she allowed only four hits while striking out four and walking none.

Right off the bat in game one prospects looked good for a Millersville sweep. Hosier singled and Laura DeVoe doubled to put two runners in scoring position in the top of the first. Fitzgerald brought them both home with a base knock to center field.

Courtney Eckman cruised through the first two innings sitting down all six Georgian Court batters she faced. She ran into trouble in the third, however, allowing the Lions to plate two and tie the game.

Brooke Hull, who went 3-for-3 with a pair of homers and five RBIs in game one, led off the bottom of the fourth with her first round-tripper of the afternoon to give the Lions the lead. Her second shot of the day ended the game in the sixth as the three-run homer gave GCU a 10-2 lead.

Georgian Court accumulated seven runs over the final two innings. Diana Sansevera, who one-hit the Marauders a season ago, settled down after the first inning. Sansevera (6-1) allowed just two more hits over the final five innings and struck out five in picking up her sixth win of the season.

Eckman (1-3) had a 0.47 ERA coming into play on Wednesday, but gave up three runs in 3.1 innings of work to take the loss. Freshman Lisa Rich, a New Jersey native, recorded her first career strikeout in the sixth against the first batter she faced in her career.

Millersville heads to Salem, Va., this weekend to take part in the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament. The Marauders will play five games in three days against inter-region opponents. MU plays at 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday night.
