Marauder Swimming Defeats Elizabethtown

Millersville, Pa. –
On the strength of nine first-place finishes in 10 events the Millersville women's swim team defeated nearby Elizabethtown 147-58 Thursday evening in Pucillo Natatorium. With the win the Marauders remain undefeated in dual meets at 5-0.

The 200-yard medley relays finished first, second and fourth in the first event of the evening. Millersville's team of Samantha Strickler, Sara Keenan, Sarah Bernhardt and Amie Mowery claimed top honors with a time of 1:58.42. Arielle Walbert, Breann Martinez, Katie Bentley and Rebecca Anderson followed close behind in 1:58.56.

Walbert swam a season-best time of 11:16.52 to take home first place in the 1000-yard freestyle. Laura Castello and Amy Leiphart finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 11:52.55 and 12:12.31.

In the 200 free Bernhardt and Victoria DeTample took home first and second. Bernhardt picked up first place with a season-best time of 1:59.64 and DeTample finished close behind with a time of 2:04.81.

The Marauders claimed the top-three spots in the 50 free with less than one second separating them. Amanda Thomas notched first in 26.19 seconds, Martinez finished second in 26.24 and Anderson landed third in 26.51.

Picking up her first 200-yard individual medley win of the season, Mowery touched the wall in 2:21.55 to take home first. Strickler claimed second with a time of 2:22.74. Bernhardt landed her third victory of the night in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.76.

Mowery went on to secure another first place finish in the 100 free in 57.74 seconds. Adriana Rodriguez finished second with a time of 58.40 seconds.

Walbert, Thomas and Keenan swept the top-three spots, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. Walbert swam a time of 1:04.40, Thomas finished in 1:05.30 and Keenan swam a 1:09.49.

Strickler notched a second place finish in the 500 free in 5:38.38. DeTample and Katelyn Brenner closed in fourth and fifth places with times of 6:03.96 and 6:14.82.

Martinez swam a 100 breaststroke time of 1:14.19 to claim first in the event. Keenan finished third in 1:18.40 followed by Rodriguez in 1:20.04.

Wrapping up the night's events the Marauder 200 free relay team of DeTample, Anderson, Thomas and Rodriguez posted a first place time of 1:46.85.

Millersville takes a break until the New Year when the Marauders host Kutztown on Friday, Jan. 15. Action is scheduled for 1 p.m.
