Box Score
Millersville, Pa. – The last time No. 8 Millersville field hockey faced No. 10 C.W. Post it lost on a Pioneer penalty stroke in overtime. This time, however,
Sara Dickinson stopped the visitor's stroke as the Marauders held C.W. Post scoreless and rolled to a 2-0 conference win Tuesday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Millersville improved to 9-9 overall and 2-5 in the PSAC East with the victory and tied last season's mark for the most wins in a season since 1999. It was also the seventh shutout of the season for the Black and Gold--the most since 1996.
The Marauders took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when
Jessica Cave hit the back of the cage off of a pass from
Melissa McCarthy at 29:09. Cave stood perfectly positioned at the bottom of the circle after sending a corner pass to McCarthy, and she sent the ball past Pioneer goalkeeper Cortney Colern.
C.W. Post then saw its chance to knot the score with a penalty stroke at the end of the first period. Vicky DeRosa stepped to the line, but Dickinson stopped her shot in mid-air and maintained the lead for the Marauders.
Cave set up her squad for another penalty corner five minutes into the second half and pushed the ball to
Emily Manwiller at the top of the arc. Manwiller slammed the ball to the back of the cage and put the Marauders up, 2-0.
The Pioneers out-shot Millersville by a 22-8 margin and held a 13-6 advantage in penalty corners, but they could not get past the Marauders' defensive wall.
Dickinson set aside 11 shots for Millersville.
The Marauders host No. 1 Shippensburg on Saturday, Nov. 6 for their final home game of the regular season. The club will honor its three seniors prior to action and will also commemorate the 65th anniversary of Millersville field hockey at halftime. The match-up with the Lady Raiders is slated for 1 p.m.
