Box Score

Millersville, Pa. – If the Millersville women's basketball team had any doubts about replacing forward standouts Jenna Craig and Raquel Green from last year's club, the concerns were all put to rest Friday evening as Aurielle Mosley and Gabrielle Styles recorded double-doubles to lead the Marauders to a 72-58 win over Molloy in Pucillo Gymnasium.

Leading all scorers, Mosley registered a career-high 22 points to go along with her career and game-high 14 rebounds, escorting her squad to its fifth consecutive season-opening win. Styles, in a more quiet fashion, put up 11 points and grabbed 10 boards to open the season with arguably the best game of her career.

The Marauders (1-0) and Molloy (0-3) matched up evenly throughout most of the action until MU went on a scoring run with 3:40 left to play. Senior Domonique Stroman started a run when she knocked down two free throws to give Millersville a 61-55 lead. The squad continued the streak and eventually built a 10 point lead with 1:56 left to play.

Millersville continued to build the lead from there. Four Marauders scored points, and it was the defense that jump-started the offense. Millersville forced two turnovers, two Molloy missed shots and forced two turnovers.

Mosley converted a three-point play with 1:01 remaining to lift Millersville up by 11 and Stroman followed with a steal and a charity stripe shot to extend the lead. Freshman Leola Pinkney added to her stellar career-opening performance with a short jumper for the final score of the contest.

The Lions notched their first lead of the night at 7-6 just four minutes into action and held on for the next 13:30. Millersville clawed its way back and took a 36-28 lead into halftime.

A record-setting defensive player throughout her rookie season, sophomore Mashira Newman nabbed a game-high seven steals in addition to her 12 points and five assists.

The Marauders host Glenville State on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Pioneers narrowly escaped from West Chester Friday evening by a 98-95 score.
