East Stroudsburg, Pa. – Senior
Emily Woodland scored her ninth and final goal of the season, but the Millersville offense could not find a way to score again as host No. 4 East Stroudsburg pulled out a 2-1 win over the No. 7 Marauders Saturday afternoon. Millersville closes out the season with an overall record of 9-11 and 2-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East.
The Warriors' (16-4, 6-2 PSAC East) Jessica Franz—the leading scorer in Division II—notched her first goal of the game with 1:28 left in the first half to take the squads into the break with a 1-0 score.
Woodland knotted the score at 1-1 7:02 into second half action to register Millersville's lone goal of the contest. It was Franz, again, who answered five minutes later to give the Warriors an edge and hand the Marauders the loss.
Millersville tallied 11 shots on the day, and goalkeeper
Sara Dickinson set aside four shots on goal.
ESU avenged a 1-0 loss to the Marauders earlier this season which brought to an end an unblemished record and a No. 1 national ranking. The Warriors will face No. 1 Shippensburg (20-0) in the PSAC semifinals on Friday at Bloomsburg.
Millersville wraps up its third season under head coach
Shelly Behrens tying last year's club with the most wins in a season since the 1999 team. The Black and Gold also recorded seven shutouts this season—the most by a Marauder club since 1996.
Millersville returns the majority of its team next year as there are 20 freshmen and sophomores on the 25-player roster.
