Emily Woodland notched two goals in 10 minutes late in the second period to lift the No. 10 Millersville field hockey team to a 2-0 non-conference win over Seton Hill Tuesday afternoon. The Marauders evened their record at 5-5 with the win and recorded their second straight shutout and fourth overall.
The Millersville offense was in full force throughout the first half of action, racking up seven shots to Seton Hill's one. The Marauders also held a 6-1 advantage over the Griffins (6-3) in penalty corners.
The clubs went into the half scoreless and Marauder goalkeeper
Sara Dickinson did not face a shot on goal. Griffin goalkeeper Brittany Parker set aside five shots.
Despite Seton Hill getting off 12 shots in the second period, the squad had severe trouble finding the back of the cage. Woodland finally cracked the scoring column for Millersville just before the 55 minute mark to put the Marauders up one. Freshman
Emily Litchford registered an assist on the shot, marking her first of her collegiate career.
With 10 minutes remaining in regulation,
Brittany Troutman found an open Woodland, who found her way around Parker to seal the victory for Millersville at 2-0. It was Troutman's first assist as a Marauder.
Dickinson recorded nine saves--all of which came in second-half action.
The Marauders travel to top-ranked Shippensburg on Thursday, Oct. 7 for a 4 p.m., match-up.
