Millersville, Pa. – On Saturday, Oct. 30 the Millersville field hockey team will host Seton Hill in the “Play 4 the Cure” game in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The field hockey squad wants to team up with the community and fans to raise awareness of this disease. All of the Marauders will be wearing pink wrist bands along with other accessories in honor of the event and ask that fans attending the game wear pink as well.
Play 4 the Cure was started by Tina Reinprecht, founder, director and coach of the Mystx Field Hockey Club. The movement began with an indoor field hockey tournament in 2006 to benefit breast cancer research. Since then Play 4 the Cure has contributed over $11,000 to the Philadelphia affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Last year over 150 field hockey teams from across the country took part in Play 4 the Cure events.
The Millersville University field hockey team and student body will be selling t-shirts and wrist bands and will also be collecting donations. However, the main goal is to raise awareness for the cause by all fans wearing pink. All proceeds will benefit research and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
