Millersville, Pa. – For the second time in as many years the Millersville field hockey team held Limestone scoreless, and Saturday afternoon the Marauders defeated the Saints 2-0 in non-conference action at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. The win was the Marauders' (4-5) third shutout of the season and it marks the fourth game that Limestone (2-6) failed to register a goal.
Millersville racked up eight penalty corners and four shots in first-period action but struggled to connect for a goal.
Paige Morrison recorded the Marauders' first shot on goal off of a deflection from an
Emily Woodland shot, but Saints goalkeeper Lindsay Hinton stopped the ball from going in the cage to record her lone save of the half.
The Millersville defense kept the Saints at bay, limiting the club to just one shot and one corner the entire period. The squads went into halftime with a goal yet to be scored.
Just under seven minutes into the second half,
Jessica Cave sent a corner pass to Woodland whose shot was blocked by a Saints defender.
Champayne Hess was positioned perfectly to collect Woodland's rebound and push the ball past Hinton to lift the Marauders to a 1-0 lead.
With 54:45 showing on the clock, Woodland notched her second assist of the day when she slammed a shot on goal that hit off the post, and
Sarah Williams knocked the rebound into the cage. It marked Williams' first collegiate goal.
Millersville totaled 12 penalty corners to Limestone's eight, and held a 13-5 advantage in shots.
Sara Dickinson and Hinton recorded two saves apiece, one in each half.
Millersville hits the road for two games until returning home on Oct. 9. The Marauders travel to Greensburg, Pa. to face Seton Hill on Oct. 5 at 4 p.m.
