Millersville, Pa. – #Emily Woodland#'s goal less than three minutes into the game was all the No. 10 Millersville field hockey team needed to secure a win against previously undefeated and No. 1 East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. The Marauders stunned the Warriors (11-1, 3-1 PSAC East) while keeping them scoreless for the first time this season.

Millersville (7-7, 1-3 PSAC East) took advantage of its first and only penalty corner of the half just 2:28 into action. Emily Manwiller cradled a pass from Jessica Cave and sent the ball into the circle. Woodland stood perfectly positioned to collect the pass and send the ball to the back of the cage past Warrior goalkeeper Maureen Ordnung to put the Marauders up by one.

East Stroudsburg picked up momentum after the goal, registering a total of 14 shots in first period action and racked up nine penalty corners. The Marauder defense stepped up to the plate, though, keeping the Warrior shooting in check. Sara Dickinson set aside all six shots on goal to keep ESU scoreless, sending the clubs into halftime with a 1-0 score.

The second half was a battle to the finish for both squads. East Stroudsburg fired off 12 shots that could not get past the Millersville defense. The Marauders kept up a quick pace, continuously stopping Warrior shots and sending the ball to the other end of the field.

With 60:22 showing on the clock East Stroudsburg registered a penalty stroke. Dickinson stood face-to-face with Division II's leading scorer Jessica Frantz with both teams waiting anxiously at midfield. Frantz sent a strong push to the lower left corner of the cage, but Dickinson dove to her right and stopped the shot to keep her team on top.

The Warriors got off two shots in the final two minutes of action but the wall that was the Marauder defensive line would not back down, handing East Stroudsburg its first loss of the season and picking up their first win against a No. 1 opponent during head coach Shelly Behrens' tenure.

Ordnung registered three saves on the day for the Warriors, while Dickinson set aside 11 shots on goal.

Millersville hosts #5 Kutztown on Wednesday, Oct. 20. The PSAC Eastern Division contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
