Pittsburgh 53, Millersville 0 (Complete Results)

Millersville, Pa. - Columbia and 18th-ranked Pittsburgh invaded Pucillo Gymnasium Saturday afternoon and handed the Millersville wrestling team a pair of dual defeats.

Columbia took the opener 39-9 with Millersville winning two matches, and Pittsburgh closed the afternoon with a one-sided 53-0 victory that included five falls for the Panthers.

Millersville's two wins came from 18th-ranked 157-pound Jarrett Hostetter and 174-pound Shane Smith. Hostetter edged Matt Dunn 4-2, and Shane Smith picked up his team-best 19th win and 11th fall when he pinned Stephen West at 1:50.

Following his win over West, Smith had won 11-straight matches, but that streak was put to an end by Pittsburgh's Dave Sullivan, 2-0. Neither wrestler scored in the opening period, and Sullivan managed to ride out Smith in the second to rack up two minutes of riding time. Sullivan escaped to start the third, and he managed to fend off Smith's late attempts at a takedown.

Hostetter also had an 11-match winning streak and hadn't lost since Dec. 5 before Donnie Tasser pulled off an 8-7 upset. Tasser entered the match just 2-3, but scored a takedown and nearly caught Hostetter for a pin in the first period. Hostetter battled back, closing Tasser's advantage to one at the start of the third period. Hostetter allowed Tasser the one point escape at the start of the third with hopes of scoring a takedown, but he was unable to, and his winning streak came to an end.

In addition to the two decisions over Smith and Hostetter, Pittsburgh scored five pins, one technical fall and picked up two forfeits to earn 53 points. Pittsburgh boasted three nationally ranked wrestlers in its lineup as well.
