No. 9 Marauders Overwhelm C.W. Post to Break Losing Streak

Box Score

Brookville, N.Y. —
Bouncing back from a three-game losing streak, the No.9 Millersville field hockey team overpowered C.W. Post for the second time this season, earning a 4-2 win in Brookville on Wednesday afternoon.

The Marauders (5-5, 2-3 PSAC East), who came out looking to shake their recent slump, took control of the game immediately with two early penalty corners. Senior Kristie Testa scored her fourth goal of the season less than three minutes into the game off the second team's second corner. Junior Emily Woodland was credited with the assist.

C.W. Post (4-6, 2-4 PSAC East) out-shot Millersville 8-5 in the first half but couldn't connect until almost 21 minutes into the game when Vick DeRosa recorded an unassisted goal into the lower left corner of the cage. The game remained tied going into halftime.

The Pioneers were looking for revenge from the 4-0 loss the Marauders handed to them earlier this season, and they took a lead 2-1 12 minutes into the second half. The Marauders immediately responded, though, as Krista Bupp, who had been unable to play due to injury, came off the bench for a penalty stroke and tied the game.

It was Millersville's game from there as it tallied four penalty corners in a row. Freshmen Melissa McCarthy and Ashley Webber cashed in on the opportunities as both notched their second goals of the season with less than seven minutes to play.

The Marauders host a non-conference match-up against Seton Hill on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
