No. 9 Marauders Edged by No. 4 Kutztown

Box Score
Millersville, Pa. - The No.9 Millersville field hockey team fell short against No.4 Kutztown by a 2-1 final Tuesday evening in a battle that was close into the final minutes.

The Marauders (4-4, 1-2 PSAC East) felt the consequences of lacking starters Krista Bupp and Julia Garber throughout the game. They did, however, put up a hard fight as they held a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners.

Kutztown (7-2, 2-1 PSAC East) tallied seven shots in the first half, compared to Millersville's four, but sophomore goalkeeper Sara Dickinson, who totaled eight saves in the game, kept the game scoreless heading into halftime after stopping a penalty stroke early.

Freshman Lauri Blessing notched the first goal of the contest off a deflection, which didn't come until 21 minutes into the second half. Kutztown's Katie Brautigan answered shortly after, however, scoring off the Golden Bear's second penalty stroke, tying the score at 1-1.

The Marauders went into overdrive on the offensive end, but Kutztown took advantage, and Jenna Gregory scored the winning goal of the night off an assist from Abbey Sheeler to seal the game for the Golden Bears.

The Marauders return to action on the road on Saturday Sept. 26 when they face conference foe and second-ranked Bloomsburg. The game is slated for noon.
