Box Score

Shippensburg, Pa. —
In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, the No.9 Millersville field hockey team fought, but fell short on the road against No.1 Shippensburg, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Shippensburg (9-0) set the pace, taking the first five shots of the game. It wasn't until the 12:06 mark that the Marauders (4-3) finally got a corner opportunity at their end. The Lady Raiders outshot Millersville 13-1 in the first period, but sophomore goalkeeper Sara Dickinson stopped 11 of those shots.

Shippensburg got on the board when Jamie Doughty found the back of the cage 22 minutes into the first period, off an assist from Kristina Taylor. The field was titled in Ship's favor for the remainder of the half, as the Lady Raiders recorded nine corner shots to Millersville's three.

Millersville tried to turn the tables in the second half, outshooting the Lady Raiders 5-4, and totaling more corners (7-2). The Marauders just couldn't solve goalkeeper Amanda Houser, who turned aside all five shots on goal. Freshman Paige Morrison tallied a team-high two shots for Millersville.

Laura Wylde and Amanda Strous helped put the game out of reach, as they scored goals less than three minutes apart early in the second half.

The Marauders return to PSAC East action on Tuesday, Sept. 22 when they host Kutztown at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium at 6 p.m.
