West Chester, Pa. — For the second time this season, the West Chester Golden Rams handed the Millersville softball team a pair of defeats, this time by scores of 9-2 and 6-1, and in turn swept the season series on Friday afternoon.
Trisha Johnson's RBI-double in the top of the second plated
Jill Golomboski, as the Marauders (22-23, 1-13) gained an early 1-0 lead. West Chester (28-16, 6-8) responded in the third with Samantha Ingersoll's 2-run homer, but MU fought back to tie the game in the fourth on a single by Johnson that once again scored Golomboski.
The Golden Rams took control in the fifth and sixth innings, claiming the lead with two runs in the fifth to make it 4-2, before breaking it open with a 5-run sixth. WCU's Ingersoll and Evelyn Anderson gave Millersville starter
Courtney Eckman (9-8) a rough time, combining to go 6-for-7 with five RBIs on the afternoon. Shannon Padula went the distance and earned the win for West Chester, despite allowing 11 hits and not recording a strikeout.
Lindsay Hosier gave the visitors another quick start in game two, leading off the game with a double down the left field line. Hosier would then score on an RBI-single by
Kelly Fitzgerald. Once again, West Chester answered, this time getting to MU's
Brittany Peterson (7-8). The Golden Rams scored five runs over the first two innings, including a long ball from reigning PSAC East Player of the Week, Erin MacNamee.
WCU got another home run, this time from Kate Kmiencinski in the fifth, to put the finishing touches on its 6-1 victory. Anderson had another nice game going 2-for-3 with an RBI and MacNamee was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in. Seven West Chester starters recorded at least one hit in game two.
Meanwhile, the Marauders were limited to just three hits, two of which came in the first inning. Padula (17-9) was much more efficient in game two, earning her second win of the day.
Millersville returns home tomorrow afternoon for Senior Day and to wrap up its 2009 PSAC East slate. East Stroudsburg pays a visit, with game one beginning at 1 p.m.
