Game 1
Game 2
Murfreesboro, N.C. - The Millersville baseball team pounded out 16 hits for a 13-0 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Chowan. But the Marauders were only getting started. In game two, Millersville put 19 runs on the board to finish off the doubleheader sweep.
Millersville, now 8-6, is above .500 as a program for the first time since March 18, 2006 when it was 7-6. The 32 runs scored were the most by a Millersville team in a doubleheader since 2001 squad scored 36 against Bloomsburg.
Millersville, which has scored 42 runs in its last three games, was once again led by senior
Cody Wile as he continued his torrid streak. In the two games combined, he went 4-for-7 with five RBIs, four runs, two walks and a homer. He has now hit in nine-straight games and recorded at least one RBI in six-straight.
Wile recorded just one of his four hits on the day in the opener, but three other Marauders recorded three hits apiece and 10 different players had at least one hit.
Derek Kline,
Andrew Dochterman and
Miles Gallagher all tallied three hits and Kline and Gallagher both hit home runs.
Scott Stevens also got in on the act, hitting a pitch hit solo homer in the seventh just one batter after Kline hit his three-run blast.
Millersville had scored just one run through four full innings, but starter
Jason Long was up for the challenge. He blanked Chowan (8-6) through six innings to earn the first win of his career. He has now surrendered just one earned run in 11.2 innings this season. Michael DeSanto came on in the seventh to close the door.
In game two, the offense started at the top of the lineup.
Ryan McCormick moved into the leadoff spot for the first time this year and totaled a career-high four hits with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
It didn't take long for Millersville to strike in the nightcap. Dochterman doubled to left center, and Wile followed with his third home run of the season and the first of his three hits in the game.
Millersville, once again sparked by McCormick and Dochterman, scored five more in the third to put the game seemingly out of reach at 7-0. The Marauders would continue to pile on, though, scoring at least one run in each of the final four innings including six in the sixth.
The Marauders pitched by committee with starter
Forrest Mengle working two shutout innings and then handing the ball to
Paul Markowski, who pitched three. Dochterman went to the mound for the first time this season for the final two innings.
With Saturday's sweep, the Marauders are 8-2 since starting 0-4. The team takes on Chowan in one nine inning contest Sunday.
