Murfreesboro, N.C. – Derek Kline made the first pitching start of his career, earned the victory and also went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Millersville baseball team to a 10-7 victory over Chowan Friday afternoon.
Millersville (6-6) fell behind early, but used four runs in the sixth, one run in the seventh and four more in the eighth to pull away. The Marauders piled up a season-high 16 hits and scored at least 10 runs for the third time this season. Since dropping the first four games of the year, the Marauders are 6-2.
Kline started the game and worked four innings, allowing three runs and three hits while striking out two. Along with four hits, he also drove in two runs.
Andrew Dochterman went 3-for-4 with two runs,
Miles Gallagher went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, and
Cody Wile extended his hitting streak to seven games. Wile has also recorded two or more hits in five straight.
Kline left the game trailing 3-1. But The Marauders took the lead momentarily in the top of the sixth. Dochterman started the inning with a single, Wile singled and an error allowed Dochterman to score.
After a
Chris Edgar walk, Gallagher hammered a home run to center to put Millersville up 5-3.
Chowan struck right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning, taking a 6-5 advantage. But in the seventh, Wile drove in Dochterman to tie the game, and in the eighth, the Marauders exploded four runs on five hits to take the lead for good.
Andrew Hunt picked up the win for the Marauders after pitching the final 3.2 innings.
Millersville stays in Murfreesboro and takes on Chowan Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader.
