West Chester's Big Bats Doom Marauders

Box Scores: Game 1 / Game 2

Millersville, Pa. West Chester pounded out four home runs and 28 hits en route to 14-1 and 7-1 PSAC East victories over the Millersville softball team on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Rams (21-7, 3-1) jumped all over the Marauders (18-15, 1-5) in the opener. Erin MacNamee, Samantha Ingersoll, and Kate Kmiencinski all went deep as WCU connected for 16 hits. West Chester scored in each inning, as Millersville couldn't seem to get anything to go its way.

All nine WCU batters recorded a hit in the game and seven had multi-hit games. Ingersoll led the way with a 5-RBI game, while Kmiencinski had four and designated player Kristin McCoy had three.

All the run support was more than enough for starter Shannon Padula (11-3). Padula gave up just one run over five innings and struck out three. Janelle Mrakovich provided the only highlight for the home team, breaking up Padula's shutout bid in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single that scored Casey Coker. Freshman Brittany Peterson (6-4) gave up seven runs (four earned) over three innings in suffering the defeat.

Millersville briefly held a 1-0 lead in game two, as Shaina Briel doubled and scored on an error in the bottom of the first. The Golden Rams would knot the game in the second on a solo shot by Kmiencinski, her second of the day. From there, the game remained tied until the top of the fifth.

WCU picked up six in the fifth to build its lead to 7-1. Evelyn Anderson's 2-RBI single paved the way for the Golden Rams big inning. Kmiencinski went 2-for-4 with two more RBIs to cap her huge day. Courtney Eckman (7-5) took the loss for MU, which has lost five of its last six.

Padula (12-3) picked up her second win of the afternoon, firing a complete game four-hitter.

Millersville now gets set for a pair of road games in East Stroudsburg on Tuesday afternoon. The Marauders return home Friday for a doubleheader with Kutztown.
