Game 1
Game 2
Bloomsburg, Pa. - Forrest Mengle tossed a complete game in the opener, and
Derek Kline earned the first win of his career in the nightcap as the Millersville baseball team took two PSAC Eastern Division road games from Bloomsburg Saturday by scores of 6-2 and 11-5.
Mengle improved to 4-1 on the young season after allowing just two runs on five hits and and one walk. He also struck out six. It was just the second complete game of the season by any Millersville pitcher. Mengle took a shutout into the seventh before he allowed Bloomsburg's only two runs of the game.
With Mengle dealing, the Marauders were able to race in front. Kline blasted a two-run homer in the first inning, and
Ryan McCormick doubled in a run in the second. In the third, the Marauders picked up two more on a sacrifice fly from Michael DeSanto and,
Keith Spencer scored on a wild pitch.
Cody Wile drove in Kline with a single in the top of the seventh to cap Millersville's scoring.
Kline went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. McCormick, Wile and
Scott Slembecker also recorded two hits apiece.
Millersville kept its offense rolling in game two, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings including six in the third.
Miles Gallagher pushed four of those runs across the plate with a third-inning grand slam. It was his second homer in as many days and moved him into a tie with Wile for the team lead with five.
Kline, making his starting pitching debut, overcame a rocky start to earn the win. Bloomsburg scored two in the first inning. One came on a wild pitch, another on a steal of home. The Huskies added another in the second, but Kline regrouped and notched the victory after allowing four runs--three earned--on three hits in five innings. He also struck out four.
Kline also helped himself at the plate by going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. McCormick drove in two runs and extended his hitting streak to six games by going 1-for-3 with a double.
The Marauders scored 11 runs on just six hits but drew eight walks.
With the sweep, the Marauders improved to 12-13 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg dropped to 11-12 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
