Marauders Come Up Short in Pitching Duel

Salem, Va. — The Millersville softball team allowed just one run in its opening game at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament on Friday afternoon, but could not capitalize on its own opportunities in falling to Ohio Valley University 1-0.

The Marauders (13-10) outhit the Fighting Scots (3-18) 7-3, but left eight runners on base throughout the game. Senior Janelle Mrakovich (1-5) was terrific in the circle for MU. She allowed just one run and struck out eight, but took the loss. Her counterpart, Ohio Valley's Raegan Turner allowed more hits, but was dominant in shutting the door on the Marauders' threats. Turner also went the distance, giving up just one walk and striking out 13.

Dana Bozzetto was 2-for-3 at the plate for Millersville, while Lindsay Hosier also recorded two hits, including her seventh double of the season.

The Fighting Scots got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Mandy Strom singled home Alyssa Davis with the game's only run.
