Marauders' Winning Streak Reaches Eight

Box Scores: Game 1 / Game 2

Millersville, Pa. — The Millersville softball team eclipsed its longest winning streak in two seasons on Wednesday afternoon by defeating visiting Lincoln (Pa.) 9-1 in both games of a doubleheader at the Millersville University Softball Field.

The Marauders (13-9) scored in every inning but the fifth en route to their game one win. Courtney Eckman (6-3) mowed down Lincoln (2-6) hitters left and right. The sophomore, who came into the game with 18 strikeouts on the season, nearly doubled that total by fanning 13 Lions in game one. Eckman extended her streak of allowing one earned run or less to five games and gave up just two hits on the afternoon.

Casey Coker led the offensive onslaught in game one. Coker, owner of the team's second highest batting average, went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and her second triple of the season. Senior Trisha Johnson knocked in two runs and Lindsay Hosier scored three times, as Millersville racked up 11 hits in the opener.

Taylor Hines (2-4) took the loss for the Lions, allowing seven earned runs over five innings. Lincoln managed just two hits in game one, with both coming in the top of the fourth. Reigning ECAC Player of the Week Charisse Colston knocked in Tanina Cook to account for the Lions' only run.

In game two, the Marauders benefited from an array of early mistakes from the Lions. Millersville scored four times in each of the first two innings in building an 8-1 lead.

Janelle Mrakovich was 1-for-1 with a 2-RBI triple, her second three-bagger of the day. Ally Homa had two hits and scored two runs in game two, mirroring her game one performance, as Millersville improved to 10-2 in its last 12. The Black and Gold also surpassed their longest winning streak of 2008, which stood at six games, with the pair of wins.

Freshman Brittany Peterson (4-1) continued to the recent string of solid outings from Millersville pitchers. Peterson allowed just three hits, an unearned run, and struck out a career-high nine.

One streak did come to a close for the Marauders in game two, as their string of four straight games with 10 hits or more went by the wayside. MU still managed to connect for seven hits in the five inning game, which was shortened due to the mercy rule.

Millersville now heads to Salem, Va. for five games, beginning Friday afternoon when the Marauders take on Ohio Valley University. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
