Marauders Rout East Stroudsburg on Senior Night

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. — Seniors Gladine St. Julien and Jenna Philo made their final regular season game at Pucillo Gymnasium a memorable one. St. Julien scored 20 points and Philo nailed four 3-pointers as Millersville blew out East Stroudsburg 76-47 on Wednesday night.

Any ideas East Stroudsburg (12-14, 5-8 PSAC East) had of an upset were quickly thwarted. Philo opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, before St. Julien knocked down a pair of free throws. Triples from Philo and Ashley Moyer sandwiched an Aiesha Bellamy jumper, as Millersville (21-5, 10-3 PSAC East) built a 13-2 lead before the game was six minutes old.

The Warriors fought back, closing to within four points at 20-16 off of an Alexa Detzi layup, but the Marauders responded by scoring the next 10 points. St. Julien scored seven points and Moyer chipped in three as MU went up 30-16 with 2:51 remaining in the half. A late 3-pointer by leading-scorer Jackie Yandrisevits drew ESU within 12, 33-21, at the half.

East Stroudsburg would again try to chop into the Marauders' lead. Mel Villano's layup cut the MU lead to single digits, 33-25, with 18:43 to go. Millersville, however, always seems to go on a run when it is most needed. That was no exception on senior night. The Black and Gold reeled off the next 12 points, getting key contributions from St. Julien, Philo, Jenna Craig, and Emily Balogh.

The Marauders went on their third run of 10 points or more after Keri Cahill hit a 3-pointer at the 12:06 mark. This spurt was 17-0 in favor of the Marauders and wrapped the game up . The seniors, St. Julien and Philo, capped the run by drilling back-to-back threes and left to a standing ovation with MU up by 30.

St. Julien's game-high 20 points led the way for Millersville, but the Leesport, Pa. native also pulled down eight boards, collected four steals, and blocked three shots. Philo was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, scoring 12 points on the evening. Balogh rounded out the trio of Marauders scoring in double-figures, with 10.

Millersville, as a team, had another fine defensive night. The Marauders held an opponent under 50 points for the 14th time in 26 games and limited the PSAC's third leading scorer, Yandrisevits, to just 12 points on 3-of-8 shooting. Yandrisevits came in averaging 20.5 points per game. Cahill also scored 12 for the Warriors, who shot just 28.9-percent (13-of-45) and turned the ball over 27 times on the evening.

East Division foes West Chester and Kutztown were also victorious on Wednesday night, which means the Marauders are still playing for playoff seeding Saturday at Mansfield. West Chester and Millersville sit atop the East with 10-3 records, while Kutztown is 9-4. Both teams hold tie-breakers over the Marauders. Should MU finish in the top two, they would host a PSAC playoff game. Tip-off from Mansfield is scheduled for 1 p.m.
