Millersville, Pa. - Millersville and Franklin & Marshall renew a wrestling rivalry Friday evening in the 16th Battle of the Rupp Cup. Match time from Pucillo Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The rivalry has been alive since 1993-94 with Millersville holding a 14-3 all-time lead in the series. The two programs met twice in 2003-04 and 2004-05. The Marauders have captured the last five meetings including a 31-16 victory at Franklin & Marshall last year.
Millersville enters this year's edition of the rivalry with an 8-8 mark and with a win, it can clinch its first winning record since 2004-05. Franklin & Marshall enters the dual with a 5-11 mark.
The marquee match-up of the evening is at 174 pounds where both team's wins leaders clash. For Millersville,
Shane Smith enters with a 29-12 mark is looking to become just the 21st wrestler in school history to earn 30 wins in a season. Franklin & Marshall's Justin Herbert has been outstanding this year as well, posting a 20-9 record. Both wrestlers look for the pin as Smith boasts 17 falls and Herbert has 11 to his credit.
Millersville's 165-pound junior
Jeremy Brooks is also closing in on the 30-win milestone. He is 27-8 with 12 pins and has won six of his last seven bouts including three by fall. In all, six Marauders boast records of .500 or better. #J.J. Lester# (157) and
Sean Reed (133) need just three more wins to reach 20 wins. 197-pound Raymond Bennett needs four wins.
Friday evening is Millersville's Senior Night.

The Rupp Cup was named in honor of Theodore Rupp, who was an influential figure in both the Millersville and Franklin & Marshall wrestling programs.
Rupp graduated from Franklin & Marshall in 1935 and served as a teacher in the public schools of Lancaster, at Franklin & Marshall Academy, Solebury School and Shady Side Academy before serving in the Navy during World War II. Following his return, he was hired to teach French and Spanish at Millersville. He started the wrestling program that same year and was the program's head coach for 11 years.
Rupp is still the winningest coach in Millersville history. During his tenure, his team's posted a 71-18-2 record and won two PSAC championships. He also coached at Franklin & Marshall from 1936-43, winning four-straight National Preparatory School Team Championships and guiding 14 individuals to national titles.
He was inducted in the inaugural class to the Millersville University Athletic Hall of Fame and was named to the Franklin & Marshall College Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conferecne Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 1983.
