No. 9 Field Hockey Ends Regular Season With Loss to No. 1 Bloomsburg

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. -
In its last game of the 2009 season, the ninth-ranked Millersville field hockey team fell 4-0 to No. 1 Bloomsburg Friday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.

On a day that Millersville honored its seniors, sophomore goalkeeper Sara Dickinson recorded eight saves, but the Marauders (9-10, 2-6 PSAC East) couldn't find the answer to solve the Huskies' (17-1, 7-1 PSAC East) overwhelming offense. Bloomsburg got off 18 shots, while Millersville came up with just six.

The game remained scoreless for nearly the first 20 minutes until Bloomsburg's Amanda Riley connected for an unassisted goal. Millersville tallied three shots, but the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Huskies at halftime.

One minute into the second period Bloomsburg extended its lead, as Aubrey Carmen's shot found its way around Dickinson. The Marauder offense registered four penalty corners but could not get on the board. Huskies' goalkeeper Caitlin Koczynski turned aside the Marauders' only shot on goal.

Amie Sgarlat expanded the Bloomsburg lead to 3-0 at the fifty minute mark and Breanne Tobin scored the final goal of the game with four minutes left in regulation. Senior Kristie Testa recorded a team high three shots for the Marauders.

Millersville finishes the season with nine wins, the program's most since the 1999 season (9-11). In addition to being nationally-ranked, the Marauders continued to improve under second-year head coach Shelly Behrens. Behrens has produced 16 wins in just two seasons after Millersville struggled to win just 17 games in the four seasons combined prior to her arrival.
